The Japan Foundation

Japanese name: Kokusai Koryu Kikin. Institution founded in 1972 under the auspices of the MInistry of Foreign Affairs to promote international cultural exchange. Fields of work include: individual exchanges (artists, professors and instructors, specialists, etc.), Japanese studies and language education, arts, publications, sports, culture of daily life. Agency for Cultural Affairs

Institution of the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture. Responsible for cultural facilities, the arts, cultural heritage, the promotion of international cultural exchange, and other culture-related tasks. [en, ja]

CLAIR - Council of Local Authorities for International Relations

Promotes the international exchange activities of local governments in Japan. Headquarters in Tokyo, branch offices in each prefecture and designated cities. Overseas offices include London and Paris. Exchange and teaching programs. [en, ja]

International Artists Center

Opened in 1960 by the victims of the Hiroshima atomic bomb as the International Dance Institute. In 1962 it was opened to artists of all disciplines, and renamed the International Artists Center. International Friendship Foundation

Japan Association for Cultural Exchange

Established in 1994 under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to promote cultural exchange. [en, ja]

Japan Center for Intercultural Communications (JCIC)

Established in 1953 to introduce Japanese politics, society, culture, etc., overseas, and to heighten appreciation of Japan abroad, as well as to spread awareness of international situations among the Japanese people. Japan Foundation / Artist-in-Residence

Kao Foundation for Arts and Sciences

Established by Kao Corporation. Supports cultural activities in Japan, in particular, arts and music, and international exchanges in these fields. [ja]

Konishi International Exchange Foundation

Established by Nippon Zoki Pharmaceutical Co. in 1983, for the exchange between France and Japan, as well as between Japan and Europe, in the medical sciences and in culture. [en, ja]
